    Hey Haruko!

    Chinese Dao Sword!
Long long overdue, finally a Chinese C:SI weapon.
Perfect for our Wudang Daoist clan!

Can you tell us what type of Chinese jian (sword) this is going to be? With a name like Dao Sword I would have thought straight sword but by looking at the handle on the pics it’s a broadsword?

By the way, if you ever need testers our Shifus (Senseis) would be all too willing, just let us know.

Keep up the good work and please update us!

    Tsu

I suppose there’s some confusion with the name.

‘Dao’ and ‘Jian’ both translate in simplified Chinese to ‘Knife’ and ‘Sword’ respectively, however, they also refer to a specific type of weapon.

A Dao is a curved single-edged blade often called a ‘broadsword’ in english because of the wide blade.

A Jian is a narrow, double-edged straight blade.

It’s confusing because ‘Dao’ is a generic word that can refer to any single-edged, wide-blade sword.

It is possible that after a series of animations are developed for the Dao, a Jian will follow with slightly modified attacks.

I appologize, it’s obvious I had underestimated your knowledge of Chinese weapons!
Indeed Dao is the appropriate name for the broadsword.

I guess I was reading through my daoist lense when I assumed that the name was refering to daoism 道, rather than the broadsword 刀 :)

    Thanks for the quick clarification!

And I know many C:SI players who will be thrilled to have a choice of Chinese weapons!

    Xiexie :)
