No... I often win by letting my opponent think I'm still near full health, while I am actually nearly dead.

It'll kill strategy so hard that it won't even be fun to play

You must be fighting crappy people. Most fighters count how may times they hit. Give them a general idea of how close you are to losing. So, you're only going to fool noobs like that really.

Yes, and all of the people playing are 1 year+ veterans. I think not.
Losing from people that are substancially better, isn't that bad.
But especially if the newbies would know when the pro's made a mistake every once in while. And they get boosted confidence, you might still be killed by them if they knew that.

In any case it would influence a battle in a bad way.

Yeah, good luck counting hits when half the time you see blood they don't actually lose health.

I agree, it would be nice to have some hint that the opponent has been harmed (50, 25, 5 percent or the like) without getting overly cluttered or lagged from doing so.

In real life, we get a range of stimuli providing clues to how harmed the other person is, I don't think it would be too video-game'esque to provide a similar hint in C:SI (particularly if it's merely an option).

keeping track about your success in spar is a major point of C:SI, this shouldnt be changed.
If you realy want see your oponnents health or make em see yours, just wear the old hud as attachment on nose f.e.
this way you see the bars as head overlay
